PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a methylbenzyl alcohol with a fluorinated nucleus, capable of being industrially conducted. SOLUTION: This method for producing the methylbenzyl alcohol with a fluorinated nucleus comprises subjecting one of two hydroxyl groups of benzenedimethanol with the fluorinated nucleus to hydrogenolysis. The method is advantageously conducted in an industrial manner.
