PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Internet phone system that can attain a speech at a low charge even when a phone call is made to a speech opposite party resident in a district where no gateway for Internet phone is installed. SOLUTION: A communication MODEM 1 transmits information of a telephone number of a phone automatically connected to the communication MO DEM when a station side device 5 assigns an IP address and the assigned IP address to a server 7 and when a caller uses the phone 2 to enter a telephone number of a speech opposite party and the communication MODEM acquires the IP address of the opposite party communication MODEM 10 from the server 7 to be going to make a connection, the server 7 selects an Internet phone gateway 50 providing the cheapest speech charge with respect to the speech opposite party and informs the caller about the telephone number of the selected Internet phone gateway 50 when the speech opposite party has no available communication MODEM 1 and dials a first connected telephone number.
