PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately check the state of a fuse used for a variable power supply voltage. SOLUTION: An apparatus and a method are provided for fuse trimming with respect to a variable mode circuit. The apparatus has a circuit including two trim fuses connectable to a power supply, a first circuit part and a variable voltage fuse interpreter. The first circuit part controls the passing of a diffusion current through the trim fuses and also controls the passing of a margin and unmargin test currents through the trim fuses. The variable voltage fuse interpreter determines the states of each of the fuses (namely blown or unblown) corresponding to the margin and unmargin test currents and generates a digital output as a predetermined function of the fuse states with respect to each of the test currents.
