PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the travel of moving bodies enabling two moving bodies moving on the same track to move at the same time without making contact with each other. SOLUTION: Two stacker cranes C which move on the same track as they are supported on wheels provided along the longitudinal direction of movement are each provided with a position detecting means for detecting its position on the track and a light transmitter 25 for transmitting the position information detected by the detecting means to the other stacker crane C and for receiving the position information transmitted from the other stacker crane C. Each stacker crane C is brought to an emergency stop if its approach to the other stacker crane C is recognized based on the position information of the other stacker crane received by the light transmitter 25 and its own position information. This method can prevent contact between the stacker cranes C by bringing each stacker crane to an emergency stop upon detection of the approach of the other stacker crane C.
