The alignment laser for a space vehicle lidar has a source for emitting a laser beam (FT) in a preset direction and a receiver path with optical apparatus (4,5) to collect the beam as a reflection (FR) caused by nebulosity in the atmosphere. Gauges (3) receive the reflected beam and are sensitive to at least one of the components of the beam. Auxiliary gauges (7,9) use one of the beam components to use the alignment of the optical apparatus.
