PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing device that can process corrections on a watermark imbedded in data, with a small load, when it is required to correct the watermark imbedded in the data for recording the data. SOLUTION: When input data with a watermark imbedded to them are recorded on a medium, the data are recorded on the medium after determining the presence of the need for the addition or revision of the watermark before recording. When the recorded data are reproduced from the medium, the watermark imbedded to the data to be reproduced and the need for addition or revision of the watermark of which is determined is corrected and the resulting data are outputted. Or the need for addition or revision of the watermark is determined before recording, the watermark imbedded to the data the need for addition or revision of the watermark of which is determined is corrected, the data whose watermark is corrected are compressed for recording and then the resulting data are recorded on the medium. |
