PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk recording/reproducing device capable of preventing the abutting phenomenon between the lower opening of a cartridge and the outer peripheral surface of a turntable in the loading operation of the cartridge. SOLUTION: A relief area 11a lower than the attaching surface of an optical disk is formed in a part of a turntable 11. In order to set a positional relation where it is most difficult for the relief area 11a positioned on the outer peripheral surface of the turntable 11 to come into contact with the lower opening of a cartridge hosing the optical disk in the loading process of the optical disk, a spindle motor 8 is rotated immediately before the loading of the optical disk on the turntable 11 or after the end of its unloading, and the spindle motor 8 is stopped at the set position.
