PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optically active 1-(trifluoromethyl mono-substituted phenyl)ethylamine as an important intermediate for medicaments and agrochemicals. SOLUTION: This method for producing an optically active 1-(trifluoromethyl mono-substituted phenyl)ethylamine in high asymmetric purity and at high yield comprises the steps of condensed dehydration between a trifluoromethyl mono- substituted phenyl methyl ketone and an optically active primary amine under an acidic condition to form an optically active imine, asymmetrically reducing the thus formed optically active imine into the corresponding optically active secondary amine, and making a hydrogenolysis of the thus obtained secondary amine.
