PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic power unit of a hydraulic elevator to secure safety of a passenger by carrying out rescue operation at the time when motive power of an electric motor pulley cannot be properly transmitted to a pump pulley. SOLUTION: A control device 12 carries out the rescue operation of a car at the time when a position detection device 25 which is a motive power transmission abnormality detection device detects the abnormality of motive power transmission to a hydraulic pump 16 from an electric motor 17 in accordance with a rotational cycle of the pump pulley 19.
