PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compression ratio adjustable piston internal combustion engine formed in a simple structure and in a relatively desirably productive manner. SOLUTION: A bearing 2 for a crank shaft is arranged in an eccentric ring 3 and the eccentric ring itself is rotatably supported by a supporting bearing 4 for an engine block. At least a portion of the eccentric ring is connected to an operating arm 8. The operating arm has a toothed element 9 at the free end. The toothed element is in mesh with a pinion element 10. The pinion element is connected to an operating shaft 11 supported in parallel to the crank shaft 1 in the engine block at its side. The operating shaft is connected to an actuator 12. The piston 10 is formed by two pinions 10.1, 10.2. The first pinion 10.1 is fixed and connected to the operating shaft 11 and the second pinion 10.2 is arranged to be relatively rotatable and elastically fastened to the first pinion 10.1.
