PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molding material of a phenolic resin having high mechanical strengths, good electrical insulation properties and excellent abrading properties. SOLUTION: This molding material of the phenolic resin is characterized in that the molding material comprises (A) novolak phenolic resin, (B) an earthy graphite powder and (C) polyimide resin powder as essential components and comprises (A) the novolak phenolic resin in an amount of 30-60 wt.%, (B) the earthyl graphite powder in an amount of 0.1-40 wt.% and (C) the polyimide resin powder in an amount of 1-5 wt.% based on the total molding material. (A) The novolak phenolic resin preferably has 1,000-1,500 number-average molecular weight.
