Washing machine including a re-circulation path along which washing fluid passes from the washing chamber (9) to be returned to the washing chamber (9). The path includes a filter (3) having pores with an average size of less than 1 mu m for removal of small particles including bacteria and zeolites. Preferably, a bypass path is provided for bypassing the sub-micron filter (3), the bypass path preferably including a filter having a coarse pore size.
