The invention concerns a device for reducing pollution caused by exhaust gases designed to be integrated in a heat engine vehicle exhaust box characterised in that it comprises: metal micro-perforated barriers (6a and 6b) and porous lava rocks (7), designed, in normal engine operating conditions, to retain and degrade partly the particles and grease present in the exhaust gas; means for periodically burning, when the engine is not running, the non-degraded particles and grease accumulated in the micro-filtering barriers (6a and 6b) and the porous lava rocks (7), the required heating being produced by an electric current passing through a resistor (11); limestone rocks (9), placed downstream of the metal micro-perforated barriers (6a and 6b) and the porous lava rocks (7), designed to reduce the amount of carbon monoxide by chemical transformation of part thereof into carbon dioxide, the efficacy of said transformation being maintained in time by prior purification of the gas of particles and grease as described above.
