Procedure for separating liquid products from a suspension containing a solid comprises: (i) removing a suspension from a conversion reactor operating with at least one solid in suspension, (ii) diluting all or part of the suspension with another hydrocarbon fraction, (iii) separating to give a liquid with less than 5% suspended matter and (iv) secondary separation to remove the residual solid. An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus to implement the procedure. This comprises: (a) means of extracting from a multiphase reactor a part of the suspension, (b) means for adding a diluent, (c) a primary separation means including receptacles for the separated liquid and for the concentrated suspension and (d) a secondary separation means allowing separation and recovery of the purified liquid. The apparatus preferably includes a means for separation of gas contained in the suspension, which is situated between the reactor and the primary separation means. There are preferably two connections between the reactor and the primary separation, one with addition of diluent and one without. The concentrated suspension is returned to the reactor.
