A method for assigning a digital marketing instrument to a user in a computer network, said computer network comprising a managing server accessing an assignment database and a client communicating with said managing server, said digital marketing instrument originally not being assigned to said user in said assignment database, comprises the steps of displaying a representation of said digital marketing instrument at said client, recording the assignment of said digital marketing instrument to said user in said assignment database, and updating the displayed representation of said digital marketing instrument to reflect the new assignment status of said digital marketing instrument A digital marketing instrument and an apparatus comprise corresponding features. The invention provides a framework that offers an attractive way of obtaining digital marketing instruments and that in particular supports community-driven marketing schemes.
