The invention concerns a method for treating effluents, comprising the following steps: mixing micro-organisms with the effluent to be treated in the presence of water; heating and oxygenating said mixture so as to enhance the activity of the micro-organisms on the effluent and periodically sampling predetermined amounts of the mixture to restore it to the effluent to be treated. The invention also concerns an apparatus (10) for implementing said method, comprising a micro-organism dispensing system (14) and an oxygenation system (22). The invention is characterised in that the apparatus comprises a fermentation tank (16), provided with a heating system (21), at least a pump (18) supplying effluents into the fermentation tank (16) and at least a pump for draining (20) the fermentation tank (16).
