The invention relates to an electrical double-layer capacitor comprising two superimposed electrode layers (2, 3). Said electrode layers (2, 3) are separated by an electrically insulating separation layer (1). At least one of the electrode layers (2, 3) is applied to the separation layer (1) by coating. The inventive capacitor allows for a more compact design owing to the coating of the separation layer (1) with the electrode layer (2, 3).
