METHOD OF MAKING A FIRE RESISTANT BUILDING PANEL

A method of making a fire resistant building panel which comprises two outer layers and an inner core sandwiched between the two outer layers, is disclosed. The two outer layers are formed from a composition A containing a thermosetting resin in finely divided dry powder form, a hydraulic binder in finely divided dry powder form and an extender. The core layer is formed from a composition B comprising exfoliated vermiculite particles or expanded perlite particles which are resinated with a suitable thermosetting resin. Alternatively the two outer layers may be formed from a composition B and the core layer may be formed from a composition A. The two outer layers and the core layer are subjected to conditions of temperature and pressure to cause the thermosetting resins to set, whereafter there is provided to the layers, water in an amount sufficient for the hydration of the hydraulic binder, so that the hydraulic binder sets to form the panel.
