The invention relates to a dimensionally water-resistant thermoplastic starch material based on native starch, and to a method for producing the same. The starch materials according to the invention can be used to produce injection-molded, deep-drawn or blow-molded parts and films on conventional processing machines for thermoplastic materials depending on the composition of the product. The dimensionally water-resistant thermoplastic starch material can be obtained by extruding the native starch that has a destructurizing agent content of from 30 60 % by weight in a twin-screw extruder in a temperature range of from 65 120 DEG C, preferably of from 70 105 DEG C and then storing it for retrogradation.
