A plastic container (10) for retaining a commodity during a high temperature pasteurization or retort process. The container (10) includes a finish (12) defining an aperture for receiving the commodity, a body portion (16) generally extending downward from the finish portion (12), and a base portion (14) generally extending inward from the body portion (16) and closing off the bottom of the container (10). The body portion (16) itself includes a sidewall (23) having a crystallinity of greater than 30% and a shoulder portion (22) flaring outward, from a generally transverse plane defined by the mouth (18) of the container (10), at an angle ( alpha ) of about 15 DEG or less.
