PURPOSE: Provided is a method for extracting scopoletin from Oenanthe javanica. The scopoletin inhibits the generation of hepatitis B surface antigen. Therefore, a pharmaceutical composition containing it as an active ingredient is used as a therapeutic for hepatitis B. CONSTITUTION: A method for extracting scopoletin from Oenanthe javanica is characterized by extracting Oenanthe javanica with aqueous solvent, such as water then organic solvent, such as methanol or acetonitrile, sequentially; and performing reversed phase HPLC with the extract to obtain scopoletin.
