PURPOSE: A liquid crystal media and an electro-optical liquid crystal display using the liquid crystal media are provided, which liquid crystal display exhibits a very short switching time, a good slope and an excellent angle dependence. CONSTITUTION: The liquid crystal media comprises at least one compound represented by the formula 1; and at least one compound represented by the formula 2, wherein R¬a, R¬b and R¬bb are an alkyl group of C1-C12 unsubstituted or substituted with CN or CF3 singly or one or more of halogen atoms, at least one CH2 group of the alkyl group can be further substituted with -O-, -S-, -(CH2CH2)2-, -CH=CH-, -C≡C-, -CO-, -COO-, -OCO- or -OC(=O)O- without direct bonding with an O atom, independently each another; L¬1 is H or F; and Q is CF2, OCF2, CFH, OCFH or a single bond, Y is F or Cl or Q-Y is NCS, SN or SF5. Preferably the electro-optical liquid crystal display is a TN(Twisted Nematic) or STN(SuperTwisted Nematic) liquid crystal display. |
