PURPOSE: An air-fuel ratio control method for preheating a catalyzer is provided to reduce the combustion gas by making lean burn possible in cold starting. CONSTITUTION: An air-fuel ratio control method for preheating a catalyzer comprises the steps of transmitting air volume, load and engine rpm to an ECU(Electronic Control Unit)(S1), determining basic injection amount based on the air volume, load and engine rpm(S2), deciding the application of a catalyst preheating compensation coefficient by the temperature of a catalyzer(S3), finally injecting the basic injection amount, calculating a compensation coefficient near a theoretical air-fuel ratio by detecting the amount of remaining oxygen, determining a catalyzer preheating compensation coefficient depending on the temperature of the catalyzer, air volume, load, engine rpm and load, determining the final injection fuel amount in proportion to the catalyst preheating compensation coefficient(S4), and burning the finally injected fuel(S5).
