PURPOSE: A backlash adjustment device is provided to enhance the operation efficiency and productivity of a scrap production line by allowing a cutting gap between rotary knives of a scrap chopper to be kept constant by means of a gear for adjusting backlash formed between reduction gears. CONSTITUTION: A scrap chopper includes a pair of rotary knives. A gap between the rotary knives is adjusted between reduction gears which transmits power to the rotary knives. The reductions gears include a pair of spur gears(60,60). A plurality of shafts(40) are rotatably and vertically installed on a scrap chopper. A bearing(42) is assembled with each of the shafts(40). A split gear(10), a second gear(30) and the spur gear(60) are assembled to each of the shafts(40). The second gear(30) is a gear for adjusting backlash formed between the spur gears(60,60). The second gear(30), is installed under the split gear(10). The second gear(30) is fastened to the split gear(10) with an eccentric blot(55). At this time, the second gear(30) is fastened to the split gear(10) in a state rotated in its circumferential direction in an amount equal to the backlash between the spur gears(60,60).
