A portable communication device comprises an image pickup section 104 to enable the user to transmit images of the environs in which the device is used. The device further comprises a display 105 to display the current local reception signal strength in accordance to information supplied by the radio communication section 103. Upon selection of image communication to another like device, reception signal strength information is transmitted as an image in addition to the main transmission image captured by the image pickup. The reception signal strength is monitored during the communication and, if the reception signal strength deteriorates significantly a communication quality alarm is generated by the control section 101. In this instance a pre-stored alarm image is transmitted with, or in place of, the image from the image pickup to the receiving communication device. |
