PURPOSE: A device for compensating a video motion is provided to exactly estimate motion information between fields from a past field and a future field based on a presently-interpolated field in a deinterlacing system, and to interpolate the motion information, thereby improving picture quality. CONSTITUTION: A field data supplier(11) sequentially supplies consecutive 3-sheet field data. A frame motion detector(12) inputs the field data to detect motion degrees between frames, by detecting motions of fields located on the same phase at time intervals of one frame or many frames. A field motion detector(13) inputs the field data to detect motion degrees between fields by detecting motions of fields located on different phases at time intervals of one frame. A motion detection controller(14) analyzes a probability of showing a motion, which is bigger than a specific motion degree on each pixel section every horizontal line of a field for detecting a present motion. The motion detection controller decides whether to drive the field motion detector for the same pixel section of a next horizontal line based on an analyzed result. A comparator(15) compares an output value of the frame motion detector and an output value of the field motion detector, and outputs a bigger value as a brightness difference signal for detecting a motion.
