PURPOSE: An apparatus for extracting cell synchronization for a wireless ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) communication and a method therefor are provided to improve the efficiency of an entire system by transmitting an ATM cell in wireless environment and simultaneously decreasing a wireless ATM cell synchronization and cell boundary extracting time. CONSTITUTION: A pattern comparator(100) successively extracts a sub-frame pattern among data when a wireless ATM frame through a wireless network is inputted as a serial type of a sub-frame unit, and outputs a sub-frame pattern acknowledge signal corresponding to the extracted sub-frame pattern. A pattern history storing unit(200) receives the sub-frame pattern acknowledge signal from the pattern comparator(100) and successively stores counting information from the received time to the detected time of a next sub-frame pattern. A CRC(Cyclic Redundancy Check)-8 calculator(300) checks whether CRC-8 values of cells in a sub-frame are "0" when the wireless ATM frame through the wireless network is inputted as the serial type of the sub-frame unit, successively extracts an ATM cell header, and outputs an ATM cell header acknowledge signal corresponding to the extracted ATM cell header. A CRC-8 history storing unit(400) receives the ATM cell header acknowledge signal from the CRC-8 calculator(300) and successively stores counting information from the received time to the detected time of a next ATM cell header. A cell synchronous control unit(500) receives sub-frame pattern extracting information and ATM cell header extracting information from the pattern comparator(100), the pattern history storing unit(200), and the CRC-8 history storing unit(400) and generates a frame and a cell synchronous signal using information. An S/P(Serial/Parallel) converter(600) receives the frame and the cell synchronous signal from the cell synchronous control unit(500) and converts the wireless ATM frame through the wireless network into an ATM cell unit using synchronous signals.
