PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the quantity of washing water and washing time in the case of washing activated carbon packed in a tower, by increasing the discharge efficiency of very fine activated carbon particles remained in the tower. SOLUTION: An activated carbon-packed bed is extended by back washing (a first back washing process).
