This invention relates to a lumber drying kiln having a housing (10) which includes a heat absorbent upper surface (12), a base (11) beneath the upper surface, a wall (14) of variable height which surrounds and extends between the upper surface (12) and the base (11) to provide an airtight chamber (25) between the upper surface and base for timber (44) to be dried and means (26) for connecting the chamber to a vacuum pump. In a preferred form of the invention the upper surface (12) of the kiln housing is a solar heat absorption panel. |
