Vacuum suction apparatus for picking up individual small components such as nuts, bolts, and rivets from a mass of such components, includes means arranged to sense when the or each suction inlet (26) is at a predetermined distance from the top level (30) of the mass of components (31) and to maintain the or each inlet (26) at a predetermind distance from that top level; together with means (23) for moving the suction inlets (26) in a combination of XYZ directions towards, away from, and parallel to the component mass (31). Advantageously the or each inlet portion (26) of the or each suction tube is essentially shoe-shaped. In another modification the or each inlet portion (26) is adapted to dig into the top level (30) of the mass of components (31) so as to disturb part of it to facilitate the pick up of individual components by the suction inlet. |
