PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of and a device for producing a steel pipe making it possible to perform a size free diameter reduction processing. SOLUTION: This method for diameter reduction processing comprises passing a pipe (steel pipe) rolled for diameter reduction by a reducer or the like through a die 2 having a pore diameter D0 larger than a pipe outer diameter (that in a die inlet side) D1 after rolling while contacting the pore wall thereof continuously to the rolling operation, and rolling the die around the pipe along the outer face thereof during the passing of the pipe. In the operation of the method, it is preferable to use a rotating eccentric die device 4 constituted so as to support the die at an eccentric position by a holder 6 via a bearing 5 and rotate the holder around a pass line.
