PURPOSE: An electric power steering device using a sector gear is provided to reduce the capacity of an electric motor by increasing the increment of steering torque at the rotation ending position of a steering wheel and reducing the holding force of the electric motor. CONSTITUTION: An electric power steering device has a steering wheel(10), a steering shaft(12), a pinion gear(19), and a steering linkage(30). A sector gear(40) is combined to the pinion gear. The sector gear turns within a specific range by centering on a rotating shaft(41) fixed on one end of a vehicle body. A protruded portion(42) is formed on one face of the sector gear, and is inserted to a slot(31). The protruded portion of the sector gear draws the trajectory of a curve motion. The rack displacement of the steering linkage increases steering torque. Therefore, the steering wheel is smoothly operated even without the increase of the holding force.
