PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the efficiency of image processing between equipments interconnected by a network and to enhance picture quality. SOLUTION: A system for transmitting image data from a server via a network to terminals such as cellular phones is constructed. To enhance picture quality, the image data is subjected to a gradation correcting process and a half-tone process that match display characteristics. In this case, image processing packages are prepared for both the server and the terminals and either of the packages is used according to processing capability. The serer determines whether or not image processing is to be carried out according to the kind of terminal. When the image processing is carried out, a control signal indicative of it is transmitted to each terminal as the signal is associated with the image data. Based on the control signal, the terminal determines whether or not image processing has been carried out, and subjects only unprocessed data to image processing. The image processing is carried out at at least either the server or the terminal whereby as the picture quality is enhanced, processing is performed by the side with the higher processing capability for increased efficiency. |
