PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily check the state of a magnetic head incorporated in an automatic ticket checking machine or the like. SOLUTION: The magnetic head device having a plurality of head elements in one magnetic head is provided with a test signal transmitting means for transmitting a specified test signal to a specified one head element among the plurality of head elements, a leaking signal receiving means for receiving signals caused by the leakage of the test signal from the remaining head elements excluding the specified one among the plurality of head elements, and a determining means for determining the states of the plurality of head elements based on the received signals.
