PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device that prevents a rise in a resistance of a contact transfer face by easily and compactly attaching a cleaning means to a contact transfer member and securely cleaning a soiled area of the contact transfer member by use of the cleaning means. SOLUTION: The image forming device is equipped with a transfer mechanism. The transfer mechanism has the contact transfer member abutting on an image carrier, carries a recording material to a transfer nip area between the image carrier and the contact transfer member, and transfers a toner image on the image carrier onto the recording material. In the image forming device, the transfer nip face of the contact transfer member relative to the image carrier is fixed during the transfer of the toner image and is cleaned by the cleaning means and moved when the transfer is not carried out.
