PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently perform aligning work for a laser diode element and an optical fiber. SOLUTION: The alignment is performed by oppositely arranging the connecting end faces for a laser diode element 3 and a lensed fiber 8, and by moving the lensed fiber 8 by X, Y, Z stages 12, 13, 14 on the basis of the algorithm stored in an algorithm storage 6. While the lensed fiber 8 is moved in the Z axis direction which is nearly the same direction as the optical axis of a laser beam from the laser diode element 3, the laser beam is made incident on the lensed fiber 8. Then, each time the lensed fiber 8 is transferred by half the moving quantity of a laser beam wavelength using the reference position of the Z axis direction as the reference, a light quantity is measured for the laser beam that is made incident on the lensed fiber 8. The vicinity of the position where this measurement value is maximized is set as the optimum position for the optical fiber in the Z axis direction. The optimum position of the optical fiber on the XY plane is determined through fine alignment by the 5-point aligning method after rough alignment by spiral aligning.
