PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an HDD that performs biaxial rotation from being damaged without giving limit to the design layout of merchandise where the HDD is mounted on a movable part. SOLUTION: This protective device includes a display device 11 supported by a main body 1 supported with respect to a pedestal 2 in a freely and biaxially rotatable way, a lock mechanism 5 for preventing biaxial rotation movement between the pedestal 2 and the main body 1, and a magnetic disk device 12 included in the main body 1. The lock mechanism 5 is provided with a mechanical part 6 for preventing the biaxial rotation movement and an electric part for outputting an electric signal 18 for moving a magnetic head 14 to a retreat position 17 when the prevention of the biaxial rotation movement is released to a motor 16. When a locked state is released and the main body 1 manually moved, damage by the abnormal contact between the magnetic head 14 and a recording medium 13 is completely avoided because the magnetic head 14 is separated from the recording medium 13 and retreated to a retreat position 17.
