PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film magnetic head and its manufacturing method capable of extremely reducing a magnetic pole with high accuracy. SOLUTION: A thin-film coil 12 is disposed in an area behind the rear end position (first position P1) of an upper shield layer 8. Since the surface of a substrate in the rear area 11R of a recording gap layer 11, i.e., in the arranging area of the thin-film coil 12, is lower than the position of the substrate surface of a font area 11F, the height H1 (μm) of an apex part composed of an insulating film 13 is low. Since an upper magnetic pole 14 is formed such that a tip part 14A has a very small fixed width, a magnetic pole width is greatly reduced with high accuracy. |
