PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber end face inspection device and its method capable of making the accuracy of inspection higher than before when the condition of an end face of an optical fiber is inspected by using an optical microscope. SOLUTION: To inspect an end face of the optical fiber, a hold member 130 is provided and used to dispose a light source 110 and the optical microscope 120 so that their respective installation angles 161 and 162 relative to the axial direction 15 of the optical fiber are not smaller than the light receiving angle of the optical fiber and not larger than 45 deg. Accordingly, the light for end- face inspection from the light source is totally reflected by the end face of the optical fiber including a core and a clad, and a part of the light comes into the microscope. Therefore, any flaws or stains on the end face can be recognized with higher accuracy than before and the accuracy of inspection can be enhanced.
