The orthesis consists of a supporting structure (3) that goes round all or part of the wearer's body and has a shock-absorbing material (4) on its inner surface (3A). The surface (4A) of the shock absorbing material opposite that in contact with the supporting structure is in the form of a skin with an impermeable finish to limit the penetration of water used in washing or of perspiration. The surface in contact with the patient's skin or undergarments is smooth or slightly granular while being agreeable to the touch. The material also incorporates a foam layer (6) between the supporting structure and finishing skin.
