PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an evaporable composition capable of forming a high refractive index layer even when evaporated at a low temperature and capable of giving an antireflection film having good scuffing and wear resistances and good chemical and heat resistances and less liable to the lowering of the heat resistance with age and to provide the evaporable composition and a method for producing an optical component with an antireflection film. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the evaporable composition, an evaporable starting material mixture obtained by mixing evaporable starting materials including titanium dioxide and niobium pentoxide is sintered. The evaporable composition contains titanium dioxide and niobium pentoxide. In the method for producing an optical component with an antireflection film, vapor of the evaporable composition is generated and deposited on a substrate to form the high refractive index layer of the antireflection film.
