PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify an elevating/lowering lifter mechanism, to facilitate production and assembling and to reduce a cost in a sliding magnetic head device for magneto-optical recording. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a head element 3 having a slidable contact part 2 brought into slidable contact with a magneto-optical recording medium, a support body 4 for supporting the head element 3, a fixing body 5 for fixing the support body 4 and an elevating/lowering lifter 6 for elevating/ lowering the support body 4. The lifter 6 is formed by folding a linear body and rotatably supported in a lifter supporting insertion groove 52 which is formed at one place of the fixing body 5 and provided with a lifter coming-off preventing pawl part.
