OPTICAL ELEMENT, SPECTROSCOPIC DEVICE AND INTEGRATED OPTICAL DEVICE USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such problems that the scale of the device has to be enlarged so as to improve the performance of an optical demultiplexer which uses a diffraction grating because the wavelength dependence of the exiting angle from the diffraction grating is low. SOLUTION: In the optical element using the end face of a periodical multilayered structure as the entrance or exit face of light, the light leaking from the multilayered structure shows preferable directivity and high wavelength dependence of the angle. These properties are used to realize a spectroscopic device of high resolution without enlarging the size of the device. Particularly, by disposing the multilayered structure with its layer planes perpendicular to the substrate, an optical element suitable for integration can be formed.
