An assimilable gel (I), for treating the skin of the feet or legs, comprises (by weight) (a) 0.1-1 % carbomer, (b) 1-5% glycerol, (c) 1-5% propylene glycol, (d) 0.01-0.1% disodium edetate, (e) preservative (as required), (f) 0.01-2% concentrated (40:1) aloe extract, (g) 0.5-2% polysorbate 80, (h) 0.01-0.5% menthol, (i) 0.5-1.5% triethanolamine, (j) 0.2-1% extract of red algae, (k) colorant (as required), (l) perfume (as required) and (m) water to 100%. An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of (I), by: (i) introducing 3/4 of the water into a mixer; (ii) adding (a) and mixing until an agglomerate-free mixture is obtained; (iii) mixing 1/6 of the water, (b), (c), (d) and (e) to give a solution; (iv) adding the mixture from (ii) with the mixture from (i) then adding (f) and (j); (v) mixing (g) and (h), heating at up to 52 deg C until dissolution is complete, cooling to room temperature, adding (i), 1/50 of the water and (l) and mixing; and (vi) adding the mixture from (iv) to the mixture from (iii), adding the remaining water and mixing to give a transparent, agglomerate-free gel.
