PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and an image forming device provided with the image reader where the position of an original platen can be set at a low position and mass consecutive reading of originals can be realized. SOLUTION: The picture reader 1 is provided with a sheet carrying path 12 through it in a vertical direction. When the reader 1 is arranged over a paper feeding device 303, this path 12 forms a part of a carrying path carrying for carrying a sheet P fed out from the device 303 to the image forming part 100. Thus, even in the case of providing the reader 1 under the part 100, the sheet P fed from the device 303 can be carried to the part 100.
