PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and with high accuracy measure the shape of a peripheral face of a roll type article. SOLUTION: A displacement amount detecting means 16, that nips the roll type article 14 in the diametrical direction by a sensor section 26 and a reference point section 28, which are disposed to be opposite with each other in the diametrical direction of the roll like article 14 is moved from one end side of the roll like article 14 to the other end side in the axial direction thereof by a moving means 18, thereby measuring the shape of the peripheral face of the roll type article 14.
