PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the accuracy of the gap depth amount of a magnetic head, to simplify an assembling process, and to reduce the number of parts. SOLUTION: The magnetic head is provided with core halves 1 and 2 constituting a magnetic core by butting front and rear ends on each other, and a holder 12 having elasticity for fitting the core halves 1 and 2 to each other, and butting these by elasticity to hold them as the magnetic core. In the core halves 1 and 2, grooves g1 and g2 are formed on the middle parts of a gap depth direction on outer surfaces opposite to the mutual butting surfaces, in the track width direction of the magnetic core. The holder 12 has claw parts G1 and G2 as claw-shaped projecting pieces respectively engaged with the grooves g1 and g2 of the core halves 1 and 2 to elastically press the core halves 1 and 2 to be butted on each other. By engaging the claw parts G1 and G2 with the grooves g1 and g2, the core halves 1 and 2 are positioned in the gap depth direction with respect to the holder 12.
