PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To spatially and temporarily continuously measure the quantity of state, such as displacement, strain, flexure, etc., of a long body and the displacement of the bedrock around the place of the long body installed. SOLUTION: In a method of measuring the quantity of state of the long body, the quantity of state, such as strain, flexure, etc., of each section of the long body divided into (n) sections is found, with the displacement of each section being expressed by a differentiable polynomial of degree (p), the derivatives of which to p-1 stage is continuous at the boundary of the section, and the coefficient of each section is found by solving simultaneous linear equations formulated by selecting already known boundary conditions and measured values (of the displacement, inclined angle, strain, etc.), at an arbitrary position of the long body as the (P+1) pieces of coefficients of the polynomial. Then the quantity of state of the long body is found by using the coefficients.
