The method involves the steps of sending an ultrasonic signal for detecting an object, and receiving the reflected wave from the detected object, transforming this wave into a number of detection signals, these signals consisting of a detection signal for each receiver, and determining the distance and an estimation of the angular position of the object by a first formation of beams applied to the detection signals. The method also involves extracting the signals corresponding to the detection distances determined by the first step of formation of the beams, normalizing and then adding the selected detection signals after they have been lagged, and determining the angle of the object w.r.t this network of sensor antennae by a second formation of beams applied to these normalized detection signals. The final step includes applying a detection threshold fixed on the exit of the second step of formation of beams, this threshold depending upon the number of sensors of the receiving network, for finding the maximum of detection signal.
