PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner density detecting device by which detecting accuracy is obtained even when the sticking amount of a toner image on an image carrier is made large, and to provide a toner density detecting method, an image forming method, a color recorder, a color slurring detect tool, a method for manufacturing an image forming device and the image forming device. SOLUTION: The toner image on the surface of the image carrier and the image carrier are irradiated with light, and reflected light therefrom is polarized and separated to 1st and 2nd polarized light beams by a polarizing means, and received by 1st and 2nd light receiving parts, and the fluctuation of the density of the toner image is detected. The 1st light receiving part detects a mirror surface reflection component and either separate diffuse reflection component separated by the polarizing means out of diffuse reflection component reflected on the toner image. The 2nd light receiving part detects the other separate diffuse reflection component. Then, the device is provided with a control means to allow the 1st light receiving part to output a difference (1st output signal) between the mirror surface reflection component and either separate diffuse reflection component and the 2nd light receiving part to output the other separate diffuse reflection component (2nd output signal), and to perform output control by switching the 1st output signal and the 2nd output signal according to the specified sticking amount.
